The Romans wore a piece of toga (a piece of material that was nine yard
long). They were cut in a semicircle shape. They were arranged around the body in a stylish fashion, but the toga went out of style because there were too many folds and people were cold when they wore them.

The Romans started to wear a more comfortable tunic because the toga was bulky and too heavy. It was also inconvient and people felt cold when they wore the toga. Tunics were made out
of linen and wool depending on what season it was. The different colored stripes represented the wealth of the owner. On formal occasions, the Romans wore togas over their tunics. Wealthy women wore longer tunics than men.

Slaves wore tunics that were made out of two pieces of fabric that were sewn together at the shoulders with an opening for the head and arms. Over their tunics, Romans wore long pleated robes called stolae that were fitted tightly at the waist and decorated along the bottom with a band made out of red
fabric or embroider.
Boys wore a tunic which was knee-length; they were white with a red border. When the boys reached manhood/adulthood their tunic turned all white. Girls were simple; they wore a simple tunic which was belted at the waist. When they go outside they wore a tunic over the first tunic they wore.

Men and women wore sandals around the house, the women’s sandals were brightly colored and sometimes decorated with beads or pearls. When the men and women go outside they both wore boots.

In early Roman times, women brushed their hair in the middle and tied it into a bun. When women were given more rights, and were be able to go out in the public in the second century A.D they began to spend more time grooming their hair. Women usually dyed their hair; golden red was their favourite color.  Women can wear fake hairpieces to make their hair seem longer or thicker. Styles were varied between pinning it up with jeweled hairpins or wearing it down in ringlets. Wooden combs were used to brush and style their hair. Some combs were made out of bronze, ivory, shell, or animal horns.

The rich women Ancient Rome would definitely be able to buy a galerie (a wig), but if they didn't want to wear a wig they could dye their hair red or blonde. Over the years, the Ancient Roman women's hairstyles got more and more modern. If a rich women wanted to curl their hair, they would ask the slaves to use heated tongs and help them. Also, if Ancient Roman women wanted to dye their hair they would ask their slaves to use powder and blow it into their hair.

                            FASHiON.MAKEUP

In ancient Rome, almost every grown women had pale skin. Women with pale skin were considered "fashionable." If their hands or legs were rough and they wanted to smooth them out they would make hand cream out of wheat flower, asses', milk or crushed snails.

Women liked to wear make-up with very white skin, and they usually wore make-up when they go out in the public. Slaves applied make-up for them. They had white creams that were made out of powdered chalk or lead used to make the skin appear white. Eyeliners were used to darken the eyebrows, and a red iron ore called ocre were applied to their lips and cheeks.

Many ancient Roman women had dark, black eyebrows so they probably want to highlight them (like put on eyeshadow.) They would use crushed ants, eggs, and sometimes they would put ashes on the point of the needle and rubbed it in. Women who were rich and had many rich family members would spend most of their morning into their afternoon with their maid doing their hair and makeup.
